Sustainable Development of Fisheries in the Lower Amazon

On December 13-14, STA partner Sapopema co-hosted a workshop on the sustainable development of fisheries in the Lower Amazon.

The event aimed to mobilize principal actors of the region - fishers, civil society organizations, government officials, and university academicians - to analyze and discuss the state of artisanal fishing, which supports hundreds of local families.

As the two-day workshop came to a close, participants had made significant progress toward the construction of a Sustainable Development Plan for Artisanal Fishing of the Lower Amazon.

The event was put on in partnership with MOPEBAM (Association of the Movement of Fishers of the Lower Amazon), the Z20 Fishers Colony (Colônia de Pescadores Z20), and UFOPA (the Federal University of Western Pará).
